Aziza Mustafa Zadeh (Azeri: Əzizə Mustafazadə)

Aziza Mustafa Zadeh - (: Əzizə Mustafazadə) also known as The Princess of Jazz, or Die Prinzessin des Jazz or as Jazziza, was born in Baku on December 19, 1969 and is an Azerbaijani singer pianist and composer who plays a fusion of jazz and mugam (a traditional improvisational style of Azerbaijan) with classical and Avant-garde influences. Reviewers have said that her style also shows some influence from Keith Jarrett. She currently resides in Mainz, Germany with her mother, Eliza Mustafa Zadeh, who is also her manager. Her two favorite leisure activities, she says, are painting and sleeping. She is a vegetarian.

Tanita Tikaram was born in Munster, Germany where her father, an Indian-Fijian British Army officer, was stationed with his Malaysian wife. It was Tanita's mother who gave her daughter that euphonious first name, for no other reason than its melodious sound.

Ancient Heart, released when she was just 19 years old, became an international hit and led to a world tour. "Twist in My Sobriety" was accompanied by an award-winning black and white video, set in a rural village in the Bolivian Altiplano, and directed by Gerard de Thame. Three follow-up albums received mixed reviews and declining sales. Her co-producers and collaborators during this period were Rod Argent and Peter Van Hooke. Jennifer Warnes provided vocals on two tracks of Everybody's Angel. In 1995, she released Lovers in the City, which she co-produced with Thomas Newman, and in 1998 collaborated with Marco Sabiu on the more pop music-oriented The Cappuccino Songs. In 2005, Tikaram released her latest album, Sentimental. The album, which features two collaborations with Nick Lowe, was warmly received by critics and fans, but was released only on the French label Naïve Record.

Aphex Twin (born Richard David James on August 18, 1971 in Limerick, Ireland) is a Cornish electronic music artist. He has been described as "the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music." Rephlex Records was co-founded by Aphex Twin with his friend Grant Wilson-Claridge in 1991.

Richard claims to have produced sound on a Sinclair ZX81 (a machine with no sound hardware) at the age of 11:
"When I was 11, I won 50 pounds in a competition for writing this program that made sound on a ZX81. You couldn't make sound on a ZX81, but I played around with machine code and found some codes that retuned the TV signal so that it made this really weird noise when you turned the volume up."
By displaying changing patterns of color on the monitor (in the case of the Spectrum, as with many early personal computers, the display monitor was a television), the natural hum from the cathode ray tube was modulated, producing a semblance of melody.

Aynur was born in 1975 in Çemisgezek, in the province of Tunceli. She attended at ASM Music School in Istanbul, where she studied singing with Begüm Erdem and Aşkın Metiner. In 2002, her first albüm, "Seyir" was released. Besides taking part in concerts and albums of artists and groups such as Metin-Kemal Kahraman, Grup Yorum, Lütfü Gültekin, Anjelika Akbar and Orient Expressions, she has also performed the vocals for television and cinema. She has performed at home and abroad in both Kurdish and Turkish. Her album "Keçe Kurdan" (Kurdish Girl) was released by Kalan Music in 2004.The product of nearly a year's effort, with arrangements by such master musicians as Aykut Gürel, Serdar Ateşer, Kemal Sahir Gürel and Burhan Bayar, Aynur's "Keçe Kurdan" album presented a combination of Turkish and Kurdish folk songs, as well as new compositions. Accompanied by a host of fine musicians, the album was notable for its original arrangements. With her broad vocal range, Aynur performs both folk songs and improvisations, and her album has proved capable of deepiy moving audiences.Rising quickly to the top of Kurdish music albums, "Keçe Kurdan" has received a significant amount of attention, both in the Turkish and World press. The English magazine Folk Roots (fRoots) featured the albüm on the cover of their November 2004 issue. The article, titled "A Kurd on the Way," gave an account of Aynur's success and information on her past. Comparing her to Turkey's Sezen Aksu and Greece's Eleftheria Arvanitaki, it declared Aynur a major star for ali Kurds. Aynur's photo was also on the cover of a suppiemeni to the London Times Marcy 21, 2005 issue, titled "The Cultural Wealth of Turkey."Attaining great success through the song she sang in Kurdish in Yavuz Turgul's film "Gönül Yarası," Aynur became the First to sing a Kurdish song live in a film shot in Turkey. She was also featured in Fatih Akın's documentary film "Istanbul Hatırası / Crossing the Brîdge."In May 2005, Aynur receîved great interest when she performed in various cities of Holland with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, considered the finest wind ensemble in the country. Later, she gave three concerts in the "Festival of Turkey" held in Spain in July 2005, alongside such artists as Aksu, Erkan Oğur, Kardeş Türküler, Mercan Dede and Burhan Öçal.Along with these developments, fifteen montns after its release, the Sixth Criminal Court of Diyarbakır issued a court decision to have the "Keçe Kurdan" album removed from the shelves, under the prelext that the song of the same name "encouaged women Eo go up into the mountains and engage in separatism." Nâzım Hikmet Ran

Nâzım Hikmet Ran (November 20, 1901 – June 3, 1963), commonly known as Nâzım Hikmet was a Turkish poet, playwright, novelist and memoirist who is acclaimed in Turkey as the first and foremost modern Turkish poet, is known around the world as one of the greatest international poets of the twentieth century. He earned international fame with his lyric power, through the "lyrical flow of his statements".He has been referred to as a "romantic communist" or a "romantic revolutionary".He was repeatedly arrested for his political beliefs and spent much of his adult life in prison or in exile. His poetry has been translated into more than fifty languages.



Ο Ναζίμ Χικμέτ (1901-1963), ποιητής και δραματουργός. Τα έργα του μεταφράστηκαν σε πολλές γλώσσες. Γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη και υπήρξε μέλος του Κομμουνιστικού Κόμματος της Τουρκίας. Πέθανε στη Μόσχα από καρδιακή προσβολή.

Zakir Hussain - Hindi: ज़ाकिर हुसैन, Urdu: زاکِر حسین ( Percussionist from India)

Zakir Hussain (Hindi: ज़ाकिर हुसैन, Urdu: زاکِر حسین), born March 9, 1951, son of tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha, is a well known classical tabla player in India. He has also won awards and recognitions for his contribution to the world of music.

Zakir Hussain is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but gained him worldwide fame. The favorite accompanist for many of India's greatest classical musicians and dancers, from Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar to Birju Maharaj and Shivkumar Sharma, he has not let his genius rest there. His playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study.

David Byrne returned to his birthplace, Scotland, to compose the score Lead Us Not Into Temptation — the soundtrack for Young Adam — a new film directed by David MacKenzie. Byrne had been approached to score the soundtrack for Young Adam by his friends Hercules and Jeremy at the Recorded Picture Company, also producers of Bernardo Bertolucci's film The Last Emperor. Byrne co-wrote the score for The Last Emperor with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Cong Su, and ultimately won the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Award (1987) for Best Original Score. Young Adam is an adaptation of the 1954 novel by the Scottish beat writer Alexander Trocchi, starring Ewan McGregor, Peter Mullan and Tilda Swinton The film, an entirely Scottish production, is set against a very grim and repressed post-war Scotland.

In order to capture that mood, both MacKenzie and Byrne agreed that working with a group of Glaswegian musicians would be ideal. Byrne put together an ensemble of contemporary musicians from critically acclaimed Scottish bands that include Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, The Delgados and Appendix Out. The musicians recorded Byrne's compositions at a studio in Glasgow.

Η ιδέα της σύνδεσης των μαθηματικών και της μουσικής γεννήθηκε πριν από 26 ολόκληρους αιώνες στην αρχαία Ελλάδα από τον Πυθαγόρα, μαθηματικό και ιδρυτή της πυθαγόρειας σχολής σκέψης. Ο φιλόσοφος γνώριζε πολύ καλά τη σχέση της μουσικής με τους αριθμούς. Οι ειδικοί ερευνητές θεωρούν ότι το πιθανότερο είναι πως ο ίδιος και οι μαθητές του εντρύφησαν στη σχέση της μουσικής και των αριθμών μελετώντας το αρχαίο όργανο μονόχορδο.

Pythagoras was very interested in music, and so were his followers. The Pythagoreans were musicians as well as mathematicians. Pythagoras wanted to improve the music of his day, which he believed was not harmonious enough and was too hectic.

The way Pythagoras discovered that musical notes could be translated into mathematical equations was when one day he passed blacksmiths at work, and thought that the sounds emanating from their anvils being hit were beautiful and harmonious and decided that whatever scientific law caused this to happen must be mathematical and could be applied to music. He went to the blacksmiths to learn how this had happened by looking at their tools, he discovered that it was because the anvils were "simple ratios of each other, one was half the size of the first, another was 2/3 the size, and so on." The Pythagoreans elaborated on a theory of numbers, the exact meaning of which is still debated among scholars. Pythagoras believed in something called the harmony of the spheres. He believed that the planets and stars moved according to mathematical equations, which corresponded to musical notes and thus produced a symphony.


Xenakis’ interest for conjunct use of mathematical models and modern technology, passes four main routes:
-electroacoustic music (a constant facet of his work, using always the most advanced technology at the time, from musique concrete at the ‘50s to the computers today).
-the computers. As early as the ‘60s, having to deal with vast numbers of data, he used computers to assist his calculations for mainly instrumental compositions.
-the UPICof CEMAMu (Unite Polyagogique Informatique de CEMAMu), the music research center which Xenakis founded in 1966 as a continuation of the former EMAMu). The UPIC is a simple, easy-to-learn device for composing electronic music, a perfection of a device partly owed to Max Mathews: a drawing board - an “extension” of the traditional five-line staff representing in two axes the pitch and time continua, where the composer is able to note every conceivable sound - connected to a computer which is connected to a synthesizer which directly converts to sound everything written on the drawing board. Recently, Xenakis has invented a highly promising method of sound and music creation, the Dynamic Stochastic Synthesis, which consists in the direct computation (with a aid of a computer) of the sound wave, according several intricate rules.

Tο ενδιαφέρον του Ξενάκη για τη συνδυασμένη χρήση μαθηματικών μοντέλων και σύγχρονης τεχνολογίας ακολουθεί τέσσερις βασικές οδούς:
-Hλεκτροακουστική μουσική, μία μόνιμη πλευρά της δουλειάς του, όπου χρησιμοποιεί πάντα την πιο προηγμένη τεχνολογία της εποχής, από τη musique concreteτης δεκαετίας του ‘50 μέχρι τους σημερινούς υπολογιστές.
-Hλεκτρονικοί υπολογιστές. Ήδη από τη δεκαετία του ‘60, λογω της ανάγκης να επεξεργαστεί τεράστιο αριθμό πληροφοριών, χρησιμοποίησε τους υπολογιστές για να βοηθήσουν στους υπολογισμούς του, ιδιαίτερα για τα ορχηστρικά του έργα.
-To UPIC (Unite Polyagogique Informatique de CEMAMu), Πολυαγωγική Ψηφιακή Μονάδα του CEMAMu, τoυ κέντρου μουσικής έρευνας που ίδρυσε ο Ξενάκης το 1966 ως συνέχεια του EMAMu. Tο σύστημα πολυαγωγίας είναι μία απλή και εύκολη συσκευή για τη σύνθεση ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής. Mέρος της τελειοποίησης της συσκευής οφείλεται στον Max Mathews: πρόκειται για μία επιφάνεια σχεδιασμού - προέκαταση του παραδοσιακού πενταγράμμου - με δύο άξονες έναν για τη συχνότητα και ένα για το χρόνο όπου ο συνθέτης μπορεί να σημειώσει οποιοδήποτε ήχο συλλαμβάνει και η οποία μετατρέπει απ’ ευθείας ό,τι είναι σημειωμένο πάνω στην επιφάνεια αυτή σε ήχο.
Πρόσφατα ο Ξενάκης εφεύρε μία πολλά υποσχόμενη μέθοδο ήχου και μουσικής δημιουργίας, το Δυναμική Στοχαστική Σύνθεση, που πρόκειται για τον άμεσο υπολογισμό του ηχητικού κύματος, με τη βοήθεια ενός υπολογιστή, σύμφωνα με «στοχαστικούς» κανόνες. H μουσική του Ξενάκη γίνεται, σε πρώτη φάση αντιληπτή από τους ακροατές σαν μια πλοκή 'ήχων (μάζες, σύννεφα, γαλαξίες, glissandi) σε μία συνεχή ροή ηχητικών συμβάντων. Τα συμβάντα αυτά δεν έχουν καμμία σχέση με τις παραδοσιακές αρχές της αρμονίας και της μελωδίας, αλλά ακολουθούν τη δική τους λογική και λειτουργικότητα. O ακροατής εκτίθεται σε ένα ολικό αισθητικό γεγονός, ένα έργο τέχνης, το όποιο ξεπερνά τις κατηγορίες και τα γένη με τη δύναμη του, τη ζωντάνια και την πρωτοτυπία του. Τα περισσότερα έργα δίνουν την εντύπωση ενός καλειδοσκόπιου. Στο καλειδοσκόπιο ένας από τους βασικούς παράγοντες είναι η τύχη καθώς επίσης και η σχεδόν συνεχής εναλλάγή. Bέβαια για τον Ξενάκη η τύχη είναι αυστηρά προκαθορισμένη και δεν έχει καμία σχέχη με την αλεατορική μουσική και τον αυτοσχεδιασμό. Kάποια αποσπάσματα αυτής της ροής του ήχου έχουν σχέση με την παραδοσιακή ή την εξωτική μουσική. O ίδιος ο Ξενάκης στο κείμενο του Πρός μια Mεταμουσική (1967) σχετίζει τη μουσική του με την αρχαία ελληνική ( Aριστόξενος) και τη βυζαντινή μουσική. Ίσως αυτές οι «αρχαϊκές» μνήμες να δικαιολογούν την παρατήρηση του Philippot, ότι η μουσική του σχετίζεται περισσότερο με το μακρινό παρελθόν παρά με οποιαδήποτε κοντινή παράδοση.

Sergei Eisenstein Сергей Михайлович Эйзенштейн

Soviet montage theory is an approach to understanding and creating cinema that relies heavily upon editing (montage is French for "putting together"). Although Soviet filmmakers in the 1920s disagreed about how exactly to view montage, Sergei Eisenstein marked a note of accord in "A Dialectic Approach to Film Form" when he noted that montage is "the nerve of cinema," and that "to determine the nature of montage is to solve the specific problem of cinema."

Στην αρχαία Αγγλία κάποιος δεν μπορούσε να κάνει σεξ εκτός και αν είχε την συγκατάθεση του Βασιλιά (εξαιρούνταν τα μέλη της βασιλικής οικογένειας).
Όποιοι ήθελαν να αποκτήσουν παιδί, έπαιρναν την συγκατάθεση του Βασιλιά και έτσι τους δινόταν μια μεταλλική πλάκα που κρεμούσαν στην πόρτα τους όταν έκαναν σεξ. Η πλάκα έγραφε ότι διέπρατταν F.U.C.K. Δηλαδή "Fornication Under Consent of the King" (συνουσία υπό την συγκατάθεση του Βασιλιά).
