Reason in Revolt: Marxism and Modern Science

"Everything flows and nothing stays." (Heraclitus)

Dialectics is a method of thinking and interpreting the world of both nature and society. It is a way of looking at the universe, which sets out from the axiom that everything is in a constant state of change and flux. But not only that. Dialectics explains that change and motion involve contradiction and can only take place through contradictions. So instead of a smooth, uninterrupted line of progress, we have a line which is interrupted by sudden and explosive periods in which slow, accumulated changes (quantitative change) undergoes a rapid acceleration, in which quantity is transformed into quality. Dialectics is the logic of contradiction.

When you think about all the years Stalinism was in power, in East Europe and China, never was a book as intelligent as Woods/Grant's book about dialectics and science.

At Marxist.com is Alan Woods article after Bhutto was assasinated. He wrote it in 2 hours.

Woods is writing several books including one about Venezuela, and anothe about music I believe.

If you read arguments at my blog, you might notice rightists either support or oppose something. The Marxist method is to acknowledge contradiction, including your own positions. An example is I support Hugo Chavez and the Venezuelan revolution. I also acknowledge Chavez is still a bourgeoise politician who is well intentioned. I acknowledge their is corruption and rightists within Chavez's followers. Chavez is influenced by conflicting forces. To best undestand Venezuela, support my comrades, rather than Chavez, who is under pressure from many forces. Simple minded on the left and right, only support or oppose.

I support Chavez, the PPP in Pakistan, and left parties in Greece. I only endorse comrades.

Several Trotskyist groups support Trotsky's principles. More important is supporting Trotsky's dialectical method.

Israel is one issue, where dialectics are important. Some don't acknowledge that class struggle exists in Israel, that it has its own dialectics, and the same with Palestine.

My friend John Peterson, who writes for my blog, was brought into politics by Ted Grant. He was educated by Grant and Woods. John is like Woods, as he speaks several languages, loves art etc.
